Hemos estado hablando de
murras-moras-moras-braambes-mûres / hemos estado hablando de cómo las moras son
europeas y fueron trasplantadas a América y Asia / hemos estado hablando de
límites-fronteras-brechas / de cómo después de su llegada a las Américas, la
planta se volvió feroz y comenzó a actuar como una especie endémica / hemos
estado hablando de su profundo color oscuro / manchas / un cúmulo de nudos, un
todo único pero divisible: Unidades que se encuentran, que se tocan y se frotan
unos contra otros / venimos hablando de adaptarnos, atravesar y compartir un trozo
de pan con mermelada de moras con familiares y amigos.
Licking
Blackberry Jam From Your Front Teeth es una
exposición colectiva que se exhibirá en BLANCO, Gante, a principios de enero de
2023. La muestra comenzó como una colaboración entre Fabiola Burgos Labra, Paz
Ortúzar y Yue Yuan, quienes decidieron acercarse a otros artistas y comenzar un
diálogo abierto con cualquiera de ellos.
La exposición se basa en la idea de la mora como una
especie invasora, la planta de mora como límite de propiedad y la fruta de mora
como ingrediente familiar en la mesa del desayuno. Las moras habitan en
nuestros recuerdos colectivos como huéspedes no invitados que se quedan el
tiempo suficiente para ser bienvenidos e incluso extrañados después de que nos
hayamos ido.
El título de la exposición implica un momento de
intimidad; de compartir comida y sentarse lo suficientemente cerca como para
notar los dientes delanteros manchados de alguien. En un esfuerzo por replicar
el método de germinación de moras, la curaduría del proyecto no está
centralizada sino que se basa en un sistema propagativo: algunos de los
artistas participantes guían el desarrollo o eligen las obras de otros artistas
que también forman parte de la exposición. El objetivo es posibilitar una
estructura flexible de proximidad y conversaciones entre los diferentes
participantes.
Algunas conversaciones encarnan las piezas mismas;
otros hablan con el espacio. Algunos de estos diálogos son entre amigos
cercanos; otros entre colectivos. Cada conversación habitará el espacio
formando un mayor intercambio de palabras, imágenes, acciones y gustos. Un
murmullo de voces solitarias compartiendo un cuerpo.

We’ve been talking about

bread with blackberry marmalade with family and friends.
Licking
Blackberry Jam From Your Front Teeth is a collective exhibition to be exhibited
at BLANCO, Ghent during the beginning of January 2023. The show started as a
collaboration between Fabiola Burgos Labra, Paz Ortúzar and Yue Yuan, who
decided to approach other artists and start an open dialogue with either one of
them.
The
exhibition is based on the idea of the blackberry species as an invader, the
blackberry plant as a property boundary, and the blackberry fruit as a familiar
ingredient in the breakfast table. Blackberries inhabit our collective memories
as uninvited guests staying for long enough to be welcomed and even missed
after we have left.
The
title of the show implies a moment of intimacy; of sharing food and sitting
close enough to notice someone’s stained front teeth. In an effort to replicate
the blackberry sprouting method, the curatorship of the project is not
centrally arranged but rather based on a propagative system: Some of the
participating artists guide the development or choose the works of other
artists who are also part of the exhibition. The objective is to enable a
flexible structure of proximity and conversations between the different
participants.
Some
conversations embody the pieces themselves; others talk to the space. Some of
these dialogues are between close friends; others between collectives. Every
conversation will inhabit the space forming a bigger exchange of words, images,
actions, and tastes. A murmur of single voices sharing one body.
